Cllr Forsdike has been a town councillor for four years, and prior to moving to Newhaven, lived and worked in West Sussex where he served on Arun District Council.

He said: 'I am very much looking forward to the next year and the challenges that it presents.

'The last year or two have seen some real improvements taking place in Newhaven. The West Quay development demonstrates the best of what can be achieved and has transformed the riverside from its previously semi-derelict state.'

He added: 'During my year, I will be giving as much support, encouragement and assistance as I am able, in the hope that this good work can be repeated throughout the town.'

The town council is urging people to write and object to the Local Waste Plan and it's implications for Newhaven. And there are concerns the town could be used to site a sewage treatment works after Telscombe Cliffs was rejected as a possible location.
