Filching Quarry plan withdrawn

MYSTERY surrounds the future of a chalk quarry after a controversial plan to fill it with thousands of tonnes of insert soil was withdrawn.

Colin Holloway of Haulaway Ltd based in Apex Way, Hailsham, withdrew his application on July 19 for the importation of 136,000 tonnes per annum of inert construction material at Filching Quarry in the Willingdon and Javington parish during a five year period, 2012 to 2017.

A statement from Haulaway Ltd said the decision was made after an extensive consultation and a meeting with South Downs National Park and East Sussex County Council.
