Film oustripping the rest

THOSE bun-making WI strippers in Calendar Girls are cooking up a record admissions total at Worthing's Connaught Cinema.

During its first month's screening, the film attracted more than 13,000 admissions '” a record in itself '” and the next targets in sight are the overall totals of 14,000 for Bridget Jones's Diary and 18,000 for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

"Calendar Girls is well on the way for the overall admissions record," said Worthing theatres administrator David Smith. "We have had to extend it into a sixth week."

After the current short break, Calendar Girls is returning to the Connaught on Sunday, October 19, until Saturday, October 25.

And another blockbusting run is at the Connaught from today in the cartoon spectacular Finding Nemo (U).

So confident is David in the film's pulling power that for the first time ever he is running five screenings a day (from 10.15am) during the half-term holiday week starting Monday, October 27.
