Fine Finale Fireworks

MORE than 1,000 revellers gathered for an evening of music, dancing and fireworks in Wick on Saturday night.

The spectacular Party in the Park marked the end of the Festival of Wick, a week-long extravaganza held in the Flora Macdonald and Wickbourne Infants' Schools playing fields.

The Wire Project's Paul Sanderson said: "It was a phenomenal end to an incredible week it was great to see so many people coming together to enjoy themselves."

Earlier on in the day, hundreds had come to the festival site to enjoy the Family Fun Day, opened by the stern star of Lads' Army, Corporal Nauyokas, and some of his recruits, including East Preston's Ade Adebayo.

But there were no beatings, drills or horrid food just a lot of fun and laughter as the Lads' Army team stayed throughout the afternoon to take part in the packed programme of activities.

Crowds gathered around the main arena to see the scrapheap challenge final, judo display, dog training and displays by dance nation and dance fusion.

And the Lads' Army boys did a display of their own, before deciding to stay in the ring to help out with the tug-of-war.

Around the site, families were making the most of the hot weather, eating ice-creams or enjoying a nice cup of tea in the the festival caf marquee.

And there was plenty to entertain youngsters, with bouncy castles and games to keep them occupied, and there's no doubt they are looking forward to next year's fun day!
