Fire at central St Leonards shop

Firefighters are currently attending a fire at a shop in central St Leonards.

Crews from both Hastings and Bexhill were called to the scene at the Spar shop in King’s Road just before 1.15pm.

The aerial ladder platform has also been mobilised.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said: “We have been called to a shop in St Leonards following reports of a fire located in a refrigeration unit.

“Four appliances from Hastings and Bexhill, including the Aerial Ladder Platform, were mobilised today at 1.14pm to King’s Road, along with both Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

“Everyone has safely evacuated and one woman, believed to be in her 60s is being treated by paramedics at the scene, after breathing in smoke.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus are currently tackling the fire using the Aerial Ladder Platform, one hose reel and 1-in-7 foam.

“The incident is still ongoing.”

London Road remains closed between the A259 Grand Parade and Pevensey Road.
