Fire causes extensive smoke damage

EAST SUSSEX Fire and Rescue services were alerted when a local resident, who lives in Park Road, saw smoke billowing out of a house at 26, Cornwall Road at approximately 10.30am on Thursday morning.

Two fire engines attended the scene and fire officer Graham Fletcher said he believes the fire, which caused extensive smoke damage throughout the property, was caused by a chip pan.

Four officers with breathing apparatus entered the building to extinguish the fire and to ensure there was no-one inside.

A dog, who had been left alone in the building at the time the fire started, ran off when the fire crew entered the building. He is being cared for by neighbours.

It's believed that the property is owned by a Polish couple, who neighbours claim were out at work at the time of the fire.
