Fire crews called to barn blaze in Beddingham


East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a barn fire near the A27 at Beddingham yesterday (Thursday, October 1).

Four appliances from Lewes, Newhaven and Hove attended the incident shortly after 3pm.

On arrival, the location of the fire was confirmed as old dairy buildings which were being used to store hay and straw.

Crews used breathing apparatus two main jets to bring the fire under control. It was then possible to start moving the hay and straw to begin damping it down to ensure the fire did not reignite.

A relief crew was requested at 8pm to continue damping down and turning over the hay and straw.

Crews left the scene at just before 9pm.
