Fire crews called to barn blaze in Lewes

East Sussex Fire and Rescue service crews were called to a barn fire in Lewes in the middle of last night (Monday, April 18).

Five appliances from Lewes and Uckfield attended the scene on Uckfield Road, near Earwig Corner, at around 11.45pm.

On arrival, crews confirmed there was a fire in a barn involving a large amount of timber sleepers. Electrics were isolated and crews committed four breathing apparatus. One hose reel jet and one 45 millimetre jet were used to extinguish the fire.

Crews spent time at the scene damping down to prevent further ignition. The cause has been confirmed as accidental.

Firefighters left the scene at 1:42am this morning (Tuesday, April 19).
