East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has resumed normal cover following a strike by members of the Fire Brigades Union in the national dispute over pensions this morning (Monday November 4).

The industrial action took place between 6am and 8am.

FBU members have now returned to their normal duties.

During the strike, operational staff who are not members of the FBU provided cover throughout East Sussex and Brighton and Hove City.

A spokesperson said: “We attended two emergencies during the strike:

“Reports of a microwave fire at 07:36 in Hastings – the fire was out on arrival

“Crews attended the scene of a road traffic collision at 7.26am in Newhaven

“Additionally we passed on reports of a dangerous tree (6.23am at Wivelsfield Green) to the Highways Agency, as is usual with this type of incident.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for listening and following our safety advice during this time.”
