Fire crews tackle large blaze in field near Horsham - in pictures

Fire crews are battling a large blaze on the outskirts of Horsham.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said crews from Horsham, Crawley and Burgess Hill are currently tackling the fire in the open in a field off the A264 near Highwood in Horsham. A spokesman said: “Joint Fire Control received more than 40 999 calls to this incident shortly before 4.30pm and mobilised crews along with off-road vehicles and the Water Carrier from Burgess Hill to the scene. There is a lot of smoke coming from this incident, and so we would urge residents living nearby to keep their doors and windows closed for the time being while the fire is extinguished.”
