The fire appliance had been in operation at Steyning Fire Station since 2001 and yesterday was its last day.

The crew spend Sunday morning training on their new MAN Euro 6 water tender ladder, which will come into operation this evening.

The new fire engine has all the same capabilities to respond to various incidents, as well as some more modern features to help the firemen do their job.

Watch manager Danny Flynn said: “It’s great to have the new truck operational here at Steyning.

“The crew have spent a lot of time training and familiarising themselves with the new appliance and the equipment it carries.

“The old Dennis Rapier was a fantastic appliance and has served us well for the last 15 years, however it’s time for an update and this new appliance is exactly what a modern fire and rescue service needs.”
