A fire investigation is underway this afternoon (Wednesday January 21) following an incident at a property at Golby Court, Southcoast Road, Telscombe.
Two crews from Newhaven were called at 8.39am this morning to reports of a fire in a flat. A woman, believed to be in her 70s, suffered burns and smoke inhalation.
One female was rescued and given oxygen at the scene. She was then taken to hospital by the ambulance service.
Fire investigation officers are still at the scene of the fire, which is believed to have started in the lounge of the property.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “SeCamb attended this incident and woman was treated for burns and smoke inhalation before being taken as a priority to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.”
