As of 2.45pm, crews are damping down and using a thermal imaging camera to check for any hot spots.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been confirmed, said East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

It comes almost six years to the day after a devastating fire on the same pier.

Flames tore through the main arcade and destroyed a number of shops on July 30, 2014.

More than 80 firefighters battled throughout the night to extinguish the fire, which police believe was started deliberately.

Like today, the weather was hot and many were enjoying the sunshine on the beach when plumes of black smoke were seen billowing into the sky.
