THERE was a chance to find out about fire safety in the home at an open day at the Civic Centre, Shoreham, on Tuesday.

West Sussex firefighters were there to give advice, as well as Eaga Partnership and Fireangels, which install and manufacture smoke detectors.

Fires in the home have killed five people in West Sussex since April, 2004.

From then until January this year, there have been 40 accidental fires in the Adur district, resulting in four people being injured.

As well as hosting the open day, Adur District Council is fitting new smoke detectors into every local council home.
