Fire service called to derelict Hailsham building

Police and fire services were called to an attempt to light a fire in a derelict building in Hailsham on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said, “There was what appeared to be an attempt to light a small fire in a derelict building at the junction of Station Road and North Street, Hailsham, at about 7pm on Tuesday, April 27.

“Nobody was present when emergency services attended and the building was undamaged.”

A spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said, “At 18.52, we were called to attend a fire in the open on Station Road, Hailsham. Crews from Hailsham attended.

“Upon arrival, a small fire had been extinguished. The cause of the fire was deemed deliberate and the incident was handed over to Sussex Police.”

The incident comes just two weeks after a second arson attack in Shinewater Park, Eastbourne.
