Fire station campaign latest

RYE Labour candiate Sarah Owen led a delegation to Parliament to meet the Shadow Fire Minister this week.

She is campaigning to prevent the Ridge fire station from being downgraded - a move, she says, that will put lives and homes at risk in the rural Rye area.

She was joined byfire fighters and campaigners from the Ridge Save Our Station group.

Sarah said: Sarah Owen Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Hastings & Rye said,

“As the daughter of a retired Hastings fire fighter and having worked in the fire brigade myself, I understand the risk which this downgrade will cause to Hastings and the surrounding villages. Having spoken at the public meetings, listened to hundreds of residents and gathered over 4000 signatures for the petition, it is clear that people are deeply unhappy with the lack of consultation. This proposal will leave residents with worse fire cover than they currently have. That is simply unacceptable.”
