East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said one of its crews was called to the i360 on Kings Road at 11.53am, although a spokesperson said it was a ‘false alarm’.

The fire service did not reveal why its crews were called in, but the ride looked to be temporarily closed this morning.

A British Airways i360 spokesperson said: “Flights on the British Airways i360 pod were temporarily suspended today while technicians investigated the cause of an alarm. No issues were found and operations have now resumed as normal. We would like to apologise to the small number of customers affected; those unable to wait for the next flight were offered a refund.”

This comes just weeks after the i360 closed after breaking down on Friday, February 24. It reopened the following Wednesday, after a data ribbon was replaced.

And the attraction came into trouble in September last year, when it became stuck on two occasions, both times with visitors on board. It closed for several days to fix the ‘technical issue’.

The British Airways i360 opened to the public on August 4 last year.
