Firefighters called to flash floods in Horsham

Horsham firefighters have been dealing with flash flooding across the district this afternoon (Tuesday June 7).

At 1.40pm crews were called to a nursing home in Horsham Road, Cowfold, to deal with 1ft high flood waters.

A fire service spokesman said the water was causing a safety risk to residents in the property and was pumped clear by firefighters.

Crews left the scene at 2.30pm.

Another Horsham crew was called to Brighton Road at around 2.15pm.

The fire service said flood waters were affecting traffic along the road.

“The situation was left in the hands of Southern Water. No action was taken,” a spokesman said.

On Twitter Horsham fire service has warned people about the dangers of flood waters.

It tweeted: “Both Horsham crews attend flooding calls.. beware most of the water has waste in it... do not be tempted to swim.... #staysafe.”
