Firefighters launch safety scheme

FIREFIGHTERS have teamed up with a local property firm as part of a home fire safety scheme '“ the first of its kind in the county.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service offers residents free home fire safety checks, which include the fitting of a free smoke alarm.

Now firefighters will be working in partnership with Bacon and Co estate and lettings agents, which has offices in Lancing and Worthing, to promote the scheme.

Leaflets giving details of the home checks will be given to all the company's new tenants and buyers, as well as anyone visiting one of the firm's offices.

Jon Simpson, Shoreham Fire Station watch manager, said safety should be at the front of people's minds when they move into a new house.

"The aim of the scheme is to raise awareness of home fire safety. This is another good opportunity for us to highlight the importance of fire safety in the home," he said.

Hayley Scammell, lettings director at Bacon and Co's office in Manor Road, North Lancing, said: "It is good to focus on the safety of all our new tenants and homeowners, and we feel good to be working with the community."
