Firefighters spend hours fighting Hove house fire

A fire at a house in Hove this morning has led to a strong emergency response.

At 2.55am, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at a 'residential property' in Leicester Villas, Hove, according to its Twitter account.

Firefighters from Brighton and Hove were joined by colleagues from the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and at 4.32am more firefighters from Newhaven, Barcombe and Roedean joined them.

At 5.35am, the fire service tweeted: "The fire has now been surrounded and the incident will be downscaled to four crews shortly. Crews are using 6 Breathing Apparatus, 1 hose reel jet, 2 main jets and 1 in 7 foam to extinguish the fire. All persons accounted for.

By 6.39am, firefighters had isolated the gas and electricity supplies to the house, with 'steady progress being made', according to the fire service's Twitter account.

Part of Portland Road has been closed, including the stretch of road outside Portslade railway station.
