Firefighters tackle house blaze

MORE than 30 firefighters battled a house blaze in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

A woman in her 60s suffered burns to her feet and was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a two-storey detached house in Newick Lane, Mayfield.

Six firecrews rushed to the scene just after midnight and the fire was not brought under control until 3.32am.

The fire started in an attic room of the house but it is not known

exactly how it started.

Fire investigators were expected to return to the scene today to try to find out what happened.

Newick Lane was closed to drivers while the fire was being tackled but is now back to normal
