Firefighters tackle lighting strikes and flooding in Sussex

Firefighters were called to reports of flooding and a lighting fire after severe storms hit Sussex yesterday (June 23).

Two crews from Newhaven were called to Ambleside Avenue in Telscombe, after a roof caught fire after it was struck by lightning at around 5.26pm.

Elsewhere Seaford firefighters were sent to Riverside, in Newhaven after reports of flooding at around 5.31pm.

A crew from Uckfield also was sent to flooding at a shop in Heathfield High Street at around 5.55pm while Burwash firefighters were called to Meadow Way at 6.04pm although no action was required by the crew.
