According to tweets from Midhurst Fire Station, crews were called to a fire on scrubland in Kirdford at around 4.15pm yesterday (August 3).

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire covered four acres at a farm near Staples Hill, which was fought by crews from Midhurst, Horsham, Shoreham and Billingshurst.

Firefighters managed to get the situation under control in the evening, before returning later that night to check it was still out.

According to Billingshurst Fire Station, crews were called to another field fire yesterday afternoon, which was more easily contained but started by a bonfire.

The station warned countryside visitors to be aware of the damage their bonfires could cause.
