Firefighters to strike on Tuesday

Battle firefighters are to join a nationwide 24-hour strike from 9am on Tuesday (December 9) as part of an ongoing dispute with the Government over pensions.

Members of the Fire Brigades’ Union (FBU) at Battle Fire Station are joining firefighters across England for the latest stoppage.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service says contingency crews will be on duty ready to respond to emergencies, but there will be reduced levels of cover.

Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: “Firefighters in England are reluctantly calling further strike action as a direct result of the Westminster government’s failure to listen and negotiate over pensions. Firefighters are asking the Government to immediately open genuine negotiations to resolve this dispute. Firefighters will fight for however long it takes to secure a fair pensions deal.”
