Firefighters to treat '˜milk spillage'

Dealing with a milk spillage is one of the exercises that fire crews from Bognor Regis and Littlehampton will be undertaking tomorrow.

They are teaming up with the Environment Agency in a joint emergency exercise in Rustington.

Together with colleagues from the County Council’s Resilience and Emergencies Team they are rehearsing water incident techniques at the Mewsbrook Park Boating Lake.

The first scenario will involve four firefighters working in the water with Environment Agency staff to contain a diesel spill.

The second scenario will involve teams aerating the water as if a large milk spillage has occurred.

Crew Commander Graeme Woods, who has helped to organise the exercise, said: “We look forward to working with officers from the Environment Agency, helping to ensure they are familiar with the type of work we may jointly need to do in and around water.

“Multi agency exercises like this are a great opportunity to practise important skills with some of our partners in the community.”
