Firefighters treated for burns after blaze

SEVEN PEOPLE were taken to hospital after fire raged through a flat.

Emergency services were alerted after smoke was seen coming out of windows at a ground floor flat in Milestones, Mutton Hall Hill, Heathfield, at about 9.30pm yesterday (Monday)..

Firefighters from Heathfield, Uckfield, Mayfield and Burwash wearing breathing gear tackled the blaze.

Ambulances attended and paramedics took five firefighters and two residents to the Kent and Sussex Hospital at Tunbridge Wells.

Three of the firefighters were suffering from minor burns and two from heat exhaustion.

The residents were treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews left the scene at 12.30pm. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
