The first instalment of the million pound lottery award is on its way to Devonshire West Big Local following the election of a full committee board in November.
The paperwork and planning were already approved, but the money could not be released until there had been a successful annual general meeting.
Jane Dubery was re-elected as chair. “The Lottery needed to see a group with a full term of office ahead,” she said. “We were delighted to get such a strong team and plenty of local support to endorse them.”
Twelve people were appointed. Seven are residents, including all of the executive officers, and the other five have strong local connections. Details of the Big Local community grant scheme will be published as soon as possible and local groups will be able to apply for funding for projects in Devonshire West that fit categories in the plan.
“This has been an exciting time,” said Jane. “The AGM was a week after our Bohoho Christmas event that brought all sorts of festive fun to Devonshire West. And by coincidence, the confirmation of the first cheque came almost two years after the original announcement. It’s a birthday and Christmas present rolled in to one.”
