After a rigorous selection process, governors picked Chris Keating, a deputy head teacher at Imberhorne School in East Grinstead, as the successor to outgoing head Della West.

Mrs West has been in her role for the past 11 years, and announced her intention to retire at the beginning of the year.

Mr Keating will take over at the start of the next academic year.

The selection process saw governors interview nine potential candidates, with Mr Keating emerging as “by far the best” for the role.

Mrs West was not involved in the selection process, it is understood.

Having been at Imberhorne for 10 years, Mr Keating spent 13 further years teaching in London and Lincolnshire.

He said he is now relishing the challenge of becoming a head teacher.

He said: “I’m so proud and absolutely thrilled to bits.

“I have been teaching for 23 years and I was very keen to develop myself to be a head teacher.”

“I am also a resident of Worthing, having moved here three years ago. He added: “Davison is an outstanding school and I am looking forward to getting started.”
