Wealden District Council granted outline planning permission for a new development on land near Rattle Road opposite Mill View Close on March 31.

While full details of any development will require further planning permission, the decision means the council has agreed in principle to building up to 183 houses on the land.

The planned development is opposed by Westham Parish Council which raised concerns over flooding, school infrastructure and overdevelopment.

Parish councillors also objected to an increase in traffic as result of the development and said building work at would result in ‘chaos’ on nearby roads.

But Wealden planners said the increase of traffic would not be ‘severe’ and would not represent an overdevelopment of the land.

Early plans for the development suggest it may include a community orchard and football pitch.
