The highly-anticipated Salts Play Area will open its gates to children and families this weekend after months of hard work and planning.
The winning design for the new development, drawn up by Kompan, was chosen back in April 2015, with work commencing a month later.
Now, just in time for the school summer holidays, the play area is ready to hold its official open day on Saturday, July 25 with a host of activities for children of all ages.
As well as the permanent attractions included in the site, the open day will have bungee trampolines, inflatables, water zorbs and a few funfair rides, which will stay there throughout the summer while kids are off school.
The Salts Café is also introducing children’s lunch boxes for the summer holidays, with a variety of new salads and other options on their menu.
The play area is the result of a thorough public consultation, where residents were able to have their say on what they would like to see included in the seafront development.
A council spokesperson said: “Seaford Town Council would like to thank all those that took part in the consultation; it was vital to get as much public input as possible to ensure that future users of the area get enjoyment and satisfaction from the play space.”
The play area is the first aspect of the Salts Development Plan to be addressed but council officers will now start to look at the tennis courts and skate park as the second stage of the development of the site.
A project is also underway to look at the Salts Café and how improvements can be made to the services offered, its visual appearance and bringing it up to a higher standard.
The council will be considering whether to look at offering the facility on a long-term lease to encourage investment in to the business as a key asset and tourist attraction of the recreation ground.
Everybody is welcome to attend the Salts Play Area open day, which starts at 11am.
The Salts recreation ground is situated just off the seafront and within a few minutes walk of the town centre. It is home to Seaford Rugby Football Club, Seaford Cricket Club, Seaford Lifeguards and The Base. There is an on-site Salts Café, public toilets, tennis courts, basketball court, pitch and putt, outdoor gym and skate park.
As well as enjoying the Salts Play Area, Seaford Town Council is urging residents to make the most of other activities going on in the town. A spokesperson for the council said: “You can enjoy the tennis courts and skate park over the holidays, and if you are interested in sport, you can find out more about the local clubs via our website or by contacting their office directly. There are also Summer Holiday Activities working with Wave, which include outdoor gym sessions once a week at The Salts, and the programme also includes cycling lessons from South East Mountain Biking.
