Flat-out fundraising at Bexhill college

It's full steam ahead for Bexhill College's Sports Academy as a fundraising scheme for St Michael's Hospice and a Swedish exchange trip gathers pace.

The College is working closely with Marcia Dart at the St Leonard's based hospice in a cooperative effort to raise funds which will be split 50/50 between the organisations.

Imaginative College students came up with the idea of cycling, rowing and running the distance from Bexhill to Gothenburg and back- without even leaving the College grounds.

Looking at ways to raise money for the Swedish exchange trip which involves a College from Gothenburg, staff and students worked out how many miles the trip would be and then used treadmills, rowing and cycling machines to cover the distance.

It took the team five hours to complete the 1400 mile journey. Both students and teachers took part on the day and as a result they raised 150.

They also hosted a well attended quiz night at Bexhill Rowing Club among other activities which has helped to bring the total raised to over 350 so far.

The next event on the calendar is a race night and raffle, to be held at Bexhill College on Monday March 8.

There have already been some generous prize donations for the raffle including a signed Cardiff Blues rugby ball and a 250 Nike golf club.

College Sports Academy teacher Kieran Cahill said: "We are trying to raise as much as possible to support these two great causes. So far we've had great support from lots of people within the community. We would like to invite anyone who wishes to be involved to get in touch, we are especially looking for prize donations for the race night and raffle."

Anyone wishing to find out more details on the race night or to donate a prize should call Kieran Cahill or Jez Wassell at Bexhill College on 01424 214545 ext 188.
