100 YEARS AGO - Sussex Express 22nd December 1916. UCKFIELD WEIGHT JUDGING. The results of the guessing competition at the Uckfield Fat Stock Show are as follows:- the bullock weighed 101st. 1lb. Mr. Bishop, of Piltdown, estimated it to weigh 101st. Mr. C. J. Martin, Buxted, Mr. N. Kenward, Waldron, Mr. Cornwall, Plumpton, and Mr. J. Knight, of Maresfield, each submitted 101st. 2lbs. The prize of £2 was divided between them. In the pig competition the animal weighed 30st. 1 lb., the nearest guess being that of Mr. G. Goff of Fairwarp, who took the first prize of 10s. The second prize (5s.) was divided between Mr. W. Walters, Fairwarp, 30st., Mr. J. Walters, Nutley, 30st. 2lbs., and Mr. J. Thorpe, Maresfield, 30st. 2lbs. The reminder of the entry fees will be devoted to St. Dunstan’s Hostel for soldiers blinded in the war.
