PARISH COUNCIL: There is a parish council meeting scheduled for Monday 7pm.

MARTIAL ARTS: Kobudo Martial Arts is on Thursday at 5pm.

100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 30 June 1916. Fletching Grocer’s Manager Mr F W Parkes, grocer, of Fletching, asked for further time for his manager, W E Moore, saying that the circumstances were the same as when he previously made application. He had a lady assistant coming in a few weeks’ time. The application was adjourned pending the medical re-examination of another employee.

Fletching Cowman Exempted. Mr M J Martin of Fletching Common, applied for the exemption of B W Ford, his cowman, urging that he was indispensable, saying that the only other employee of military age was deaf and dumb. The Military Representative said that he did not wish to oppose the application, and exemption was granted.

A HELPFUL BROTHER: Fletching. Mr A Grover, butcher of Fletching, asked for the exemption of his son, HC Grover, who was his slaughterman. Applicant said that he could not do much work. Till July 31st was allowed, it being stated that a brother would give assistance.

Roll of Honour records: Harry Cecil Grover - Private 34557 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers 3rd Division. Died of wounds suffered near Arras 6 May 1917. Aged 20. Son of Alfred and Emma Grover of Fletching. Born in Fletching and enlisted in Brighton. Buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun. His brother Richard Albert, Private 10726, 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment. 5th Division. Died at home after the war 27 November 1918. Aged 28. Buried in St Mary and St Andrew’s Burial Ground, Fletching.
