BINGO: Bonfire Society Bingo tomorrow, Saturday, 7.30pm.

GARDEN TRAIL: Fletching Garden Trail is on Sunday. Gardens are open from 11am to 5pm. Tickets £6 on the day can be purchased in Fletching Primary School playground, children go free.

Lunches, cakes and refreshments available. Free parking all day. All proceeds benefit Fletching Church of England Primary School. Over 20 private gardens of Fletching open their gates for the 24th annual trail. For one day each year, visitors can admire beautiful herbaceous borders, stunning views across National Trust land, and enjoy homemade lunches and teas served under ancient oak trees. Come and visit the Alpacas at Spring Farm, win tickets for family days out in the raffle, send the children on a Trail Hunt, shop for crafts, plants, ice creams and more.

WOMEN’S CRICKET: Sussex vs Surrey County women’s cricket match is on Sunday, 11am. Sheffield Park’s historic cricket ground will be hosting women’s County Cricket for the first time. Entry via the landscape garden. Normal admission applies.

PARISH COUNCIL: There is a parish council meeting on Monday at 7pm.

FLETCHING SINGERS: The Singers meet on Tuesday at 7.45pm.

FORGET-ME-NOTS: The group meet on Thursday at 1.45pm.

MARTIAL ARTS: Kobudo Martial Arts is on Thursday at 5pm.

FRIENDS OF FLETCHING CHURCH: Midsummer Garden Party with Music and Pimms will take place at Town Place, Ketches Lane, Freshfield, 6pm to 9pm Thursday June 23. FLETCHING FESTIVAL: Saturday July 16. As the festival draws closer we can hardly contain our excitement. We have a fun filled day and evening planned for all our parishioners, and really hope you can come along. Look out for event programmes which will be delivered to every household free of charge, but they can also be bought on the day. The roads around the High Street and Recreation Ground will be closed from 10am until midnight and free parking will be available at Church Farm and Atheralls Farm. We will be selling festival wristbands for £5 and these give unlimited access to loads of great games and activities such as bouncy castles, welly throwing, wheelbarrow races, coconut shy, splat the rat and hook a duck. A traditional Town Crier will open the festival in the High Street at noon, followed by the Soap Box Derby and Morris Dancing. There will be lots to do and see on the recreation ground and in the church from 2pm until 5pm including face painting, competitions, children’s pet show, bird of prey show, Punch and Judy show and a family magic show. Then it’s back to the High Street from 6pm for a party with live music, food and even a casino in the village hall. You can bring a picnic or take advantage of the delicious food and drink on offer.

100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 16 June 1916. Fletching. Lord Kitchener - at the Parish Church on Sunday, at the close of morning service. The Organist, Mr A H Saunders, played the Dead March in Saul and after evensong, Chopin’s Marche Funebre in memory of Lord Kitchener.

MAY RAINFALL IN PILTDOWN: Total rainfall was 56mm, slightly below the long-term average of 62mm. The total for the three spring months was 191mm compared with an average of 166mm. This is attributable to above average rainfall in March.
