As in previous years, Members of The Royal British Legion will gather at the War Memorial to observe the Nation-wide Silence on Armistice Day, which this year falls before Remembrance Sunday.

Our Priest-in-Charge will lead a short Service of Remembrance, which will include the Silence. All Fletching Villagers and Parishioners are welcome. If you can come, please be at the War Memorial before 10.50 a.m.

100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 10th November 1916. FLETCHING. THE GALE – About mid-day on Sunday, when the gale was at its height, a large elm tree standing in the Vicarage garden was uprooted, and fell across into the front garden of “The Cottage,” the residence of Miss H. Attenborough, completely demolishing the brick wall and iron fence round it, and blocking up the road. Fortunately there were very few pedestrians about. Another tree was uprooted at Church Farm, which fell over into the Churchyard, but beyond knocking off a few bricks it did no other damage. Many stacks in the district were unroofed, and many people narrowly escaped being struck by the branches of trees, tiles, etc.
