Fly tipping warning

STEYNING police chief Merv Wyeth has pledged to use new government legisation to get tough on fly-tipping.

Inspector Wyeth said the police would be working with Horsham District Council this summer to combat the growing problem in rural areas.

Insp Wyeth told the Herald that the law has now changed and anyone found guilty of fly-tipping could face up to five years in prison and a large fine, because it is now an arrestable offence.

He added: "That is what the public want and it's a crime we feel very strongly about. We have had a lot of good results with abandoned vehicles and seeing them removed very quickly.

"We will be working very closely with Horsham District Council to see what can be done."
