Flying the flag for the Queen's 90th birthday

Union Flag bunting fluttered in the sunshine all along the railings by Western Road recreation ground in Hailsham last Friday evening.

Through Friday afternoon a white marquee was set up along with several other gazebos and some sound equipment. Several families came onto the park and started setting up picnics for their Prom in the Park.

Hailsham FM started off the proceedings with popular music and Demelza set up their Bumper Tombola stall. Couples, groups and families all enjoyed the warm evening.

And the atmosphere was electric with everyone in a party mood sporting an array of Union Flags. The Prom in the Park raised money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children and sponsored by generous donations from Hailsham Town Council, Hart Colman and McCarthy & Stone. Little Horsted School in Uckfield celebrated The Queen’s 90th Birthday with a fantastic street party in the school playground last Friday, 10 June.

The pupils took part in a hat parade, an afternoon of singing, dancing, poetry recitals, floral gifts given by the reception children to the guests and with a delicious afternoon tea that was prepared and served by the children themselves.

The Uckfield Mayor councillor Louise Eastwood was delighted to accept the invitation. She joined in with the whole school singing the National Anthem and said how amazed she was by the range of talents that the children showed. Mayor Eastwood was thrilled to cut the Queen’s birthday cake, led the three cheers for the Queen and made a speech about Her Majesty.

The afternoon was enjoyed by school governors, the children’s grandparents, members of the church, very special guests from Sussex Support Services and representatives from the school’s PTFA.

Cradle Hill Community Primary School in Seaford celebrated on Friday by coming to school dressed in red white and blue.

The day started with a ‘hunt the crown’ competition, when all the children searched for hidden crowns around the school grounds. The lucky children who found a crown with a winning number won a prize. At 2pm the whole school celebrated by holding a street party in their playground which was sponsored by Morrisons of Seaford who provided all the decorations and tableware. Brewers Decorators Centre of Seaford provided the table clothes in the form of wallpaper rolls which the children decorated. The children sat down to party food, had a paint the Queen competition and sang the National Anthem. They all went home with a commemorative coin bought by the schools PTFA to remember the special day.

On Sunday, 27 neighbours and friends sat down to enjoy an open air luncheon in Harrow Close, Seaford organised in its entirety by two pairs of residents.

Visitors to Hart Reade Solicitors in Hailsham helped raise £250 for children’s hospice Chestnut Tree House on Friday at a coffee morning celebration. Tables were decorated in red, white and blue in honour of the Queen’s birthday and visitors enjoyed trying their luck at the tombola, while donating generously to the charity.

And a fabulous day was had by all attending the Age UK East Sussex, Havens Day Club in Newhaven on June 8. The day began with chair-based dancing followed by rousing renditions of Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and the National Anthem all finished off with a traditional tea party.
