Fontwell youngster takes leap towards dream

A FONTWELL youngster has taken another leap towards his dreams to become a famous showjumper.

Hugo Truman, 12, of Little Heath Road, has qualified for Hickstead, a prestigious horse competition. He only started showjumping four years ago and has already experienced success in other national competitions.

“I am really pleased to have qualified. I was nervous during the qualifying rounds but I just went out and did it.”

The Seaford College pupil works hard to fit his horse riding lessons around his school commitments. He and Doune are already busy practising for Hickstead in July.

“Because the arena is grass and that is not a surface I am used, and it can be a bit slippy. I will be doing some extra work to make sure I am ready,” said Hugo. “Doune is also very clever and able to adapt to things well. A lot of what she seems to do is just instinct.”
