Food for thought plea to Bognor residents

CASH-strapped residents in the Bognor Regis area have been urged to think before they throw.

With many feeling the pinch, Arun District Council has encouraged people to save more money by throwing less food away.

Arun’s cabinet member for the environment, Cllr Paul Dendle, said: “Food waste makes up a large percentage of the rubbish in Arun and the UK.

Residents can save money by using special recipes for using leftovers and by better food planning, purchase and storage.”

The latest figures show the message is getting through. Food waste comprised 38 per cent of the area’s rubbish last May against 40 per cent in 2007.

But Arun is keen to further reduce the amount of food ending up in the bin. Its top tips to achieve this include storing food correctly, writing shopping lists, and measuring out portions.
