Football club pays tribute to a "charming and popular figure"

Ringmer Football Club today paid tribute to a 'charming and popular figure' after Herve King died after collapsing on the pitch during the Blues' game with Three Bridges.

A club statement released this evening said: 'Ringmer FC is sorry to announce the death of Herve King.

'Herve collapsed in open play 17 minutes into Saturday's game at The Caburn against Three Bridges.

'Herve was eventually taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton after extensive treatment, initially from Ian Fairs, Ringmer's sports therapist and his colleague Tracey Weller from Three Bridges, and a number of spectators and players '“ and then the crews of two ambulances.

'Despite the sterling efforts from all concerned, Herve was pronounced dead earlier this evening.

'Herve King had just re-signed for Ringmer and today's game was his third in this, his second spell at the club.

'Herve was a 27-year-old data analyst who played previously for Croydon Athletic, Redhill, Chipstead and Burgess Hill.

'Herve was a charming and popular figure wherever he played.

'He leaves behind a partner, Sarah, and Ringmer FC's players, officials and supporters extend heartfelt sympathies to them both and the rest of his family.'
