Football club saves Arundel nursery

ARUNDEL'S children can play easy, after being rescued from the brink by Arundel Football Club.

Old School Nursery was given notice to vacate its premises, a classroom at Arundel Church of England School, Jarvis Road, in March, and told it needed to move by July.

The race was on to find a new site by September, and a campaign, by staff, parents and councillors has paid dividends, with the club offering its facilities.

Angie Holden, who runs Old School, said: "I am relived and overwhelmed . The last ten months have been a roller coaster, with a few ups and lots of downs."

Bob Marchant, chairman of the football club, whose 13-year-old daughter used to attend Angie's nursery, said he had felt compelled to step in.

"I am a Mullet, I have lived in Arundel all my life. I wanted to do something to help out."

The club will need some work done before it is ready to receive the children in September, which will carried out, and paid for, by West Sussex County Council.

Pat Arculus, of the council, said the council had a duty to make sure there were sufficient child care places available.

"We are delighted that a solution has now been found."
