FORD ECO-TOWN: Eco-town committee to reconvene

Two special hearings are to be held by a revived council committee set up to investigate plans for an eco-town at Ford.

The select committee has been reconvened by Arun District Council following new information from the government about the proposals.

Two public meetings will be held by the committee on January 16 and February 5, both between 2pm and 5pm.

After this, the committee will make its recommendations to all Arun councillors on February 18.

This will enable the council to make its view known before the government's latest deadline for public comments the next day.

Cllr Graham Tyler will again chair the select committee, which first met for six days last May and June.

He said the success of those hearings, which heard evidence from a wide range of sources, had prompted the committee's revival.

"While we will not be going into the great depth that characterised our previous inquiry, we shall still be conducting the same open, professional and unbiased assessment when we meet in the new year.

"We have until February 19 to submit our response to the government," he stated. "I urge those who wish to contribute to our latest debate to write to us immediately with their views."
