Ford fire “was arson”

A BLAZE that firefighters spent eight hours bringing under control was started deliberately.

Fire crews from Littlehampton and Arundel were called to Rudford Industrial Estate, in Ford Road, Ford, at 4.22am yesterday (Monday, October 18), where three storage containers, which had Calor Gas cylinders, household goods and 100 boxes of fireworks inside, had been set alight.

A cordon was set up around the area, and firefighters were at the estate until 12.25pm, cooling the cylinders and fireworks, to prevent the fire from restarting and spreading.

This morning, a spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the blaze had been the result of an arson attack.
