Foreign trucks 'pay no road toll'

The government's failure to levy road toll charges on foreign-registered trucks entering the country at Dover through the Channel Tunnel and ferries has been attacked by a leading Conservative MEP speaking in Bognor Regis.

MEP Mr Richard Ashworth was speaking to more than 50 Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Conservative Association Party faithful at the annual political luncheon held at the Robin Hood Hotel in Shripney.

After covering a range of issues, Mr Ashworth agreed with a questioner that urgent action needed to be taken regarding the unacceptable situation which allows foreign-registered heavy goods vehicles to use British roads free.
