Forest ravaged by fire

A FIREFIGHTER braves smoke in an effort to bring a major blaze under control on Ashdown Forest.

Nearly 170 hectares of tinder-dry heath and woodland was ravaged by the fire on Monday.

Scores of firefighters tackled the outbreak which is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette or the remnants of a barbecue.
