Forest Row fishmonger in running for food award

A Forest Row fishmonger has been shortlisted for a top placing in a prestigious annual foodie award.

Veasey and Sons is one of just four local businesses lined up for the Best Sussex Food or Farm Shop in the Sussex Food and Drink Awards 2013-14.

A spectacular awards banquet, hosted by Sally Gunnell OBE, will be held at the Amex Stadium on January 30 when the winners of all categories will be revealed.

Boss of the business, Chris Veasey has been successfully fishing for many years between Eastbourne Harbour and Poole Bay in His Gemini G10 Catamaran.

A crew now run the boat, catching shellfish in pots, line fishing and netting a mixed variety of fish. They have recently moved back to Eastbourne Harbour to make the journey from boat to shop more efficient.

With the growing popularity of farmers’ markets in Sussex, Chris decided to open a fishmongers’ shop. He said: “Where better than Forest Row? We have been open for over two years now and all has gone well. We have been well received in the area and we see many rgular faces in the shop.”

Veaseys is up against Rushfields Farm Shop, Poynings, and Sharnfold Farm Shop in Hailsham.
