FOSTER carers from Forest Row were invited to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Tina and Peter Henderson who have looked after 95 children mixed with royalty after being nominated for recognition by the County Council. The couple have been carers for the East Sussex Fostering Service since 1993 and have also been active members of the East Sussex Foster Care Association since its beginning.

Steve Hunt, council fostering manager said: “Tina is a wonderful advocate for fostering and she, with her husband Peter and daughter Laura, have helped change the lives of so many young people. Many they have looked after over the years keep in touch and they are really proud of how they have turned out.”

The Hendersons also played a role in ensuring the ESFCA works with the County Council to ensure foster carers are respected as professionals by social workers and others who work with children in care.

After the visit Tina said: “In our fostering career we have had the honour of working with some very remarkable children who have taught us so much about what is important in life. We had a very special day at the Palace. We got to see the Queen twice and we also saw Prince Philip, Edward, Sophie and The Duke and Duchess of Kent. The palace was opulent and grand and the food was lovely. It was a once in a lifetime experience which we both will always treasure.”
