Former Bognor Regis councillor offers help for seafront clock

A former town councillor has offered to make a donation which will stand the test of time along Bognor Regis seafront.

Ken Scutt is willing to pay up to £2,500 to help ensure the first clock which can be seen from the promenade can be installed.

His offer has been accepted in principle by the existing town councillors. They told their officers to study the idea in more detail and come back with firm ideas.

Bognorian Mr Scutt, 83, of Nyewood Lane, said: “I thought it would be a nice idea for the Queen’s diamond jubilee next June to have another clock on the town hall.

“It would be on the opposite side of the tower to the existing clock which was installed to mark the millennium.

“The new clock will be able to be seen from the promenade. There’s no other clock along there and it will prove handy for people out walking.

“It should complement the current clock nicely as well. You can’t imagine the town hall without a clock now and another one on the back will also add to the building.

“It’s a matter of civic pride as well to have some public clocks in a town.”

Mr Scutt’s offer is to pay for half the cost of the clock up to a maximum expense of £5,000.
