A former beauty student has made it into the next round of a skills competition which could see her travel to Abu Dhabi to represent the UK, competing against world finalists.
Kaiya Swain, 19, of Stone Cross, took part in UK Skills, a national competition delivered each year across the country for young people and adults.
It aims to showcase excellence and culminates in a World Final every two years.
Kaiya finished her studies at Sussex Downs College in Lewes in June 2014.
Since then she has pursued a career in her chosen field and works at Cooden Medical Group as an aesthetic therapist.
Kaiya had entered the regional heats before but did not get through.
However last year Kaiya entered the competition again.
She won the regional heat in Eastleigh in June last year and got into the top 10 to compete in Birmingham in November.
Kaiya was shortlisted and could now be in with a chance of taking part in World Skills.
Whilst there is still a long way to go for selection in WorldSkills 2017, a spokesman for the college said Kaiya has the skills and enthusiasm to progress.
He said: “She is not sitting back to relax.
“Months of intensive training follows, before the next round in Birmingham this November where Kaiya will compete for a place on the UK Squad.
“If selected for the UK Squad, of which there are only five coveted places available, Kaiya will be allocated a training manager and performance coach in preparation for the team selection.”
