Former town mayor thanked for his work

Outgoing Bognor Regis town mayor Jim Brooks has been thanked for raising £2,200 for charity.

Cllr Brooks handed over the large sum to the Samaritans at the end of his year in office at the council’s annual meeting on Monday, May 14.

Lawrence Young, director of the charity’s Argyle Road branch, said: “This donation covers about ten per cent of our running costs.

“Jim has been a real advocate for the Samaritans and we know he has worked really hard. He has done his best to get us out there and known in the locality.”

Cllr Brooks brought in the money through various fundraising ventures. One of them included being the first town mayor to take part in the Birdman event.

The accolades continued for Cllr Brooks (Ind, Marine) during the meeting. His fellow councillors unanimously agreed a suggestion by Cllr Tony Gardiner.

He said: “We should place on record our recognition of the amount of work Cllr Brooks has done in the past year.

“He has certainly played his part and put Bognor on the map. I would like to thank you on behalf of the council for the amount of work you have put in.”
